Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC) has made a historic mark in its first attempt at the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, securing the 58th position nationally and 1378th globally.

The rankings, which assessed 1,477 universities from 95 countries, shows OMSC’s commitment to sustainable practices and eco-friendly initiatives, putting Mindoro on the global map for green education.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings were introduced in 2010 by Universitas Indonesia to measure and rank universities’ commitment to sustainability.

The rankings have gained international recognition and participation, with universities from various countries assessed on their eco-friendly practices and initiatives.

Under the leadership of Dr. Elbert C. Edaniol, OMSC has demonstrated strong performance in areas such as waste management, renewable energy, and eco-friendly transportation, an academic report said.

OMSC’s achievement manifests the collective efforts of its External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA) department, along with all administrative and academic units, the report added.

While the 58th national ranking is a promising start, OMSC acknowledges that this is just the beginning of its sustainability journey.

OMSC’s accomplishment also aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
