To reduce its carbon footprint and dependence on traditional electricity, the Mindoro Medical Center-Calapan, Inc. has partnered with EEI Power Corp. to install a 605-kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar photovoltaic rooftop system on its hospital in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

The solar rooftop system is expected to lower the hospital’s reliance on non-renewable energy sources, resulting in cost savings that can be allocated to facility improvements and enhanced patient care.

According to Mindoro Medical Center President Arthur Rico R. Villafuerte, the partnership with EEI Power Corp. reflects the hospital’s commitment to delivering excellent healthcare while contributing to environmental conservation.

“This project is a testament to our dedication as a healthcare institution to not only heal our patients but also to play a role in healing the planet,” Villafuerte said in a statement.

EEI Power Corp., the energy arm of listed construction company EEI Corp., will design, install, and maintain the solar rooftop system.

The company has a track record of providing sustainable energy solutions to its clients, with business interests in operating and managing power generating stations for several manufacturing companies.

Robert Marlon T. Pereja, EEI Power Vice-President and General Manager, noted the company’s mission to provide sustainable solutions while contributing to the betterment of communities.

“We are inspired to continue delivering innovative and environmentally responsible energy solutions that benefit our clients and stakeholders,” Pereja said.

The partnership comes as the country continues to shift towards renewable energy sources, with the government aiming to increase the share of renewables in the energy mix to 35% by 2030.

The country has set ambitious targets to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy.

On the stock market, EEI Corp. shares closed at P3.20 apiece on Thursday, down 5.88% or 20 centavos, amidst a broader market decline.

Despite the short-term market volatility, the company’s foray into renewable energy is expected to contribute to its long-term growth and sustainability.

EEI Corporation is a leading Philippine construction firm with over 90 years of experience in large-scale industrial construction, specializing in power plants, refineries, and infrastructure projects, with a strong commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability.
