The Department of Health (DOH) has officially approved the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital’s (OMPH) accreditation as a Level 2 hospital, marking a historic milestone as the first LGU-run hospital to achieve this designation in the MIMAROPA region.
The upgraded status allows OMPH to offer expanded services, including a hospital blood bank with additional functions, physical medicine and rehabilitation units, a dialysis clinic with seven stations, an rHIVda confirmatory laboratory, and advanced diagnostic services like computed tomography.
With the upgraded status, the hospital is now authorized to operate with a 182-bed capacity.
Dr. Dante Nuestro, OMPH Chief of Hospital, and Dr. Cielo Angela Ante, Provincial Health Officer, led efforts to meet the stringent requirements for the upgrade.
The provincial government, under the leadership of Governor Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor, played a crucial role in ensuring the hospital’s compliance with national standards.
In a Facebook post, Governor Dolor expressed his gratitude to all OMPH staff and stakeholders who contributed to this achievement, noting the provincial government’s commitment to further improving healthcare services despite problems and limitations.
“This milestone reflects our dedication to serving the Mindoreño people with quality healthcare. We will continue striving to improve the services at OMPH to meet the growing needs of our (people),” Dolor said.
In a memo, the DOH has advised the hospital to display its License to Operate in a conspicuous area and to address specific inspection findings in preparation for the 2025 license renewal.
In a separate Facebook post, Gov. Dolor announced that construction of a new medical building for OMPH is underway, fulfilling his earlier pledge to upgrade the hospital’s facility.
