The Provincial Government of Occidental Mindoro issued a public warning Sunday against a surge in fraudulent messages soliciting money and donations by individuals impersonating Congressman Odie Tarriela.
Governor Eduardo B. Gadiano cautioned residents about scammers operating across multiple platforms, including text messages, Viber, and social media channels, who falsely claim to represent the congressman’s office.
“These deceptive schemes have already been brought to Congressman Tarriela’s attention,” a source said.
The congressman’s office is reportedly working with authorities to track down those responsible for the fraudulent solicitations.
The scam typically involves messages requesting financial contributions or donations while using Tarriela’s name and position to appear legitimate.
Provincial authorities urged residents to exercise vigilance and immediately report suspicious messages or calls to law enforcement.
They noted that any legitimate communications from Congressman Tarriela’s office would come through official channels.
