Linemen from Mindoro, along with other provinces, are undergoing a 24-day training program conducted by the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) to enhance their skills and capabilities in providing electricity to off-grid areas.
The training, which started on November 22 and will conclude on December 19, 2024 in Bulacan province, is designed to equip 35 linemen from the National Power Corp.’s (NAPOCOR) Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) with the required skills and competencies to improve their service delivery.
The SPUG is responsible for electrification in off-grid areas, including Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, where the linemen are assigned.
Meralco’s energy education unit, Meralco Power Academy (MPA), has partnered with NAPOCOR to provide the training, which includes classroom discussions and hands-on training.
The program covers best practices in occupational health and safety, as well as the latest techniques in line maintenance and repair.
The training is part of MPA’s efforts to enable and empower energy talents to enhance their expertise, and is expected to help NAPOCOR adapt to the changing energy landscape.
The 35 linemen participating in the training are from SPUG areas in Palawan, Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Marinduque.
With over 120 years of industry leadership, Meralco is sharing its expertise to upskill the linecrew and improve the delivery of electricity services in these areas.
