A 10th-grade student from Nabuslot National High School in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro has been selected to represent the Philippines in the International Applied Chemistry Olympiad (IAChO) Onsite Grand Finals Round in Bandung, Indonesia, from September 26-29, 2024.
Jenica Mae Calingasan, a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STE) student, was one of the Grand Finalists in the IAChO.
Her achievement has brought pride to her school and the country.
Calingasan’s success is a result of the efforts of her teachers and the Science Department, led by Head Teacher II Robert Magcamit. The department aims to enhance the skills of its learners in science.
The school’s principal, Nonato R. Magtibay, played a crucial role in motivating and supporting the students’ participation in the competition.
The Nabuslot National High School administration has expressed its gratitude to the students who showed their prowess in chemistry, their dedicated trainers/teachers, and their supportive parents.
Calingasan will be competing against other talented students from around the world, including fellow Filipino students Khurt Aivan Cruzat, Zean Moira Mercado, and Lyla Eliam Joiachim Metin, who were also selected as finalists.
CHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD
The International Applied Chemistry Olympiad (IAChO) is an annual competition organized by the Indonesia Regional Science Association (IRSA) to enhance students’ capacity in science, especially chemistry.
The IAChO aims to stimulate student interest in chemistry through solving independent and creative chemical problems, promote international contacts in chemistry, facilitate friendships between young scientists of different nationalities, encourage cooperation, and exchange pedagogical and scientific experience in chemistry.
The IAChO demonstrates the growing interest and talent in applied chemistry among secondary school students globally and showcases their exceptional chemistry knowledge and problem-solving abilities on the international stage.
