More than 2,200 learners have enrolled in an alternative education program in Occidental Mindoro, the Department of Education (DepEd) has reported.
The Alternative Learning System (ALS) aims to provide flexible educational options for out-of-school youth, adults and marginalized groups.
Occidental Mindoro education officials reported the enrollment figure after monitoring the opening of classes from 30 July 2023 to 2 August 2024.
The program offers both modular and online learning to cater to diverse needs.
“This increase in enrolment shows the growing recognition of ALS as a valuable educational path,” said Dr Loida P. Adornado, Schools Division Superintendent.
Local government units have shown strong support for the program, which is seen as crucial in reducing educational inequalities.
The Schools Division Office plans to enhance the program by increasing resources and training more facilitators.
The ALS program is part of the country’s efforts to provide inclusive and equitable education for all Filipinos.
