In a stunning upset, the Mindoro Tamaraws pulled off the biggest win of the season, defeating the Quezon Huskers 66-61 in their Maharlika Philippine Basketball League (MPBL) matchup at the Bangued, Abra arena today, August 03.

The win marked Mindoro’s sixth victory of the season, improving their record to 6-15.

Meanwhile, Quezon suffered their second consecutive loss, following their defeat to Pasay last July 19.

The Huskers would have secured a playoff spot in the South Division with a win over Mindoro or Pasay.

The game was a closely contested affair, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm.

Quezon led for most of the first half, but Mindoro managed to grab the lead at the end of the period, 28-26.

The Huskers regained the lead at the end of the third quarter, 40-38, but Mindoro never looked back in the fourth quarter.

Teytey Teodoro led the way for Mindoro with 21 points, including four three-pointers and four rebounds. He was also awarded the Best Player of the Game honors.

JJ Caspe was the only other scorer for Mindoro to reach double digits, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals, and a block.

Kint Ariar and Jethro Sombero chipped in with six points each for Mindoro.

For Quezon, Judel Fuentes led the way with 16 points, including five three-pointers.

Jason Opiso added eight points and 11 rebounds, while Gab Banal, Domark Matillano, and Xyrus Torres each scored six points.

The loss drops Quezon’s record to 12-10, and they will face a tough schedule ahead, including games against Rizal Golden Coolers, San Juan Knights, and Bulacan Kuyas.

Mindoro, on the other hand, will look to build on their momentum with games against Manila SV Batang Sampaloc-SGA, Marikina Shoemasters, and Bacolod City of Smiles.

Upcoming Schedules:
Quezon Huskers: August 7 vs. Rizal Golden Coolers, August 12 vs. San Juan Knights, August 19 vs. Bulacan Kuyas
Mindoro Tamaraws: August 9 vs. Manila SV Batang Sampaloc-SGA, August 15 vs. Marikina Shoemasters, August 26 vs. Bacolod City of Smiles
