CALAPAN CITY – The Social Security System (SSS) has issued show cause orders to 10 establishments in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro on Wednesday, citing non-compliance with mandatory employee registration and contribution remittance.

The businesses, ranging from restaurants and gift shops to secondhand clothing stores and bicycle shops, were given 15 days to respond to the orders, SSS officials said.

“These employers have either failed to register their employees with the SSS or have not been remitting the required contributions to the agency,” said Atty. Alejandre T. Diaz, Acting Head of SSS Luzon South 2 Division, who led the operation.

The crackdown comes as part of a broader effort by the SSS to ensure compliance with social security laws and protect workers’ rights. Non-compliance can result in hefty fines and potential legal action against business owners.

Atty. Marc A. Villanueva, SSS Legal Officer, cited the importance of social security coverage for all eligible workers. “It’s not just about following the law; it’s about securing the future of our workforce,” he said.

Imelda Familaran, SSS Calapan City Branch Head, noted that the agency is open to working with businesses to resolve any issues. “Our goal is compliance, not punishment. We encourage affected establishments to come forward and address these concerns promptly,” she said.

SSS said it plans to conduct similar operations across Mindoro in the coming months, aiming to improve social security coverage and ensure proper benefits for Filipino workers.
