Supertyphoon Uwan Leaves Over 30,000 Displaced in Oriental Mindoro

Super Typhoon Uwan left more than 30,000 people displaced in Oriental Mindoro province as the storm exits mainland Luzon on Monday morning, with three people reported ill, officials said.

The province remained under light to moderate rainfall with gusty winds as of 11:00 p.m., Nov. 9, 2025, according to Situation Report No. 6 issued by disaster management office, even as the typhoon began moving away from Luzon.

Provincial disaster officials reported three people fell ill due to the storm – two in Bongabong and one in Pinamalayan.

A total of 8,307 families, or 30,256 individuals, have been affected in 198 barangays in 14 municipalities throughout the province.

Of these, 4,948 families comprising 17,471 persons sought refuge inside evacuation centers, while another 2,433 families with 8,273 individuals evacuated to areas outside designated centers.

Bansud municipality recorded the highest number of affected residents with 1,068 families or 5,016 persons from nine barangays.

Pinamalayan bore enormous impact with 24 barangays affected, displacing 1,166 families or 7,066 individuals – the highest number of affected persons in the province.

Bongabong reported 829 families or 2,837 persons affected from 20 barangays, while Calapan City, the provincial capital, recorded 522 families or 1,807 persons affected in 33 barangays.

Pre-emptive evacuations were conducted before the storm’s peak intensity, with 2,218 families totaling 7,472 individuals moved to safety in 11 municipalities.

Calapan City led these preventive measures with 803 families or 2,576 individuals evacuated, followed by Naujan with 619 families (2,105 persons), and Bulalacao with 459 families (1,854 persons).

Sea travel remained paralyzed, with all trips cancelled as of Saturday evening.

At the queuing lane along Barangay Bayanan I in Calapan City, 163 rolling cargoes and 385 passengers were stranded as of 9:40 p.m.

An additional 85 passengers were stranded at Roxas Port, while Bulalacao Port reported 22 passengers, four rolling cargoes, and one bus liner unable to depart.

The LGU provided 522 hot meals to stranded passengers along the Queuing Lane at Bayanan I Road in Calapan City as they awaited clearance to travel.

Meanwhile, ORMECO reported a total power interruption affecting the entire province, though water supply and communication lines remained operational, according to the PDRRM office.

Despite the blackout, all major rivers remained at normal levels and roads and bridges across the province were passable, allowing emergency response operations to continue unimpeded.

Three vehicular crashes were monitored in Puerto Galera, Baco, Pinamalayan, Bansud, Mansalay and Calapan City, though authorities reported no flooded barangays or areas in the province.

Other municipalities heavily affected included Roxas with 547 families (1,986 persons) from 11 barangays; Gloria with 695 families (2,353 persons) from 14 barangays; Baco with 439 families (1,287 persons) from 15 barangays; and Bulalacao with 483 families (1,708 persons) from seven barangays.

Additional affected areas included Victoria with 395 families (1,545 persons) from 14 barangays; Pola with 389 families (1,222 persons) from 11 barangays; Puerto Galera with 286 families (1,137 persons) from 11 barangays; San Teodoro with 160 families (536 persons) from five barangays; Socorro with 146 families (499 persons) from 10 barangays; Naujan with 138 families (434 persons) from 12 barangays; and Mansalay with 44 families (110 persons) from two barangays.
