Typhoon Opong Aid Distribution Scheduled for Oriental Mindoro

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DPWH) will conduct simultaneous validation and cash payout for families affected by Typhoon Opong starting Thursday, according to provincial officials.

The emergency cash transfer assistance program will benefit 11,997 households in Oriental Mindoro, with payouts totaling approximately P65.9 million in total damage costs.

Under the payout plan, families with totally damaged houses will receive P9,997.50 per household, while those with partially damaged homes will get P5,160 per household.

The program covers 834 beneficiaries with totally damaged houses and 11,163 with partially damaged residences.

The distribution schedule begins Oct. 23 in Baco, San Teodoro, Bulalacao, Calapan City, Naujan, Pola and Puerto Galera.

Activities continue Oct. 24 in Mansalay, Roxas and Bongabong, and Oct. 25 in Pinamalayan and Bansud.

Gloria will receive assistance Oct. 26-27, Socorro on Oct. 27, and Victoria on Oct. 29.

Total damage costs amount to P8.3 million for totally damaged houses and P57.6 million for partially damaged structures.

Gov. Bonz Dolor credited DSWD Oriental Mindoro led by Vering Boongaling, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office under Zarah Magboo, and municipal social welfare offices for coordinating the relief effort.
