The national government has moved to reassure the public that sufficient emergency food supplies remain available as the country deals with widespread flooding and storm damage across regions.
For Mimaropa region, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has announced that it maintains adequate family food packs and emergency resources to support affected households, with P3 million still available from its Quick Response Fund.
The assurance was made as the Philippines faces its most challenging weather period this year, with over 2.7 million individuals affected by days of heavy rains and flooding brought by the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or habagat, and recent tropical storms.
At least 25 deaths have been reported, with 278,000 people nationwide evacuated this week alone.
According to the latest DSWD figures, over 114,000 family food packs have been prepositioned across MIMAROPA’s provincial warehouses.
The distribution breakdown shows 28,057 food packs stored in Occidental Mindoro, 31,498 in Oriental Mindoro, 6,669 in Marinduque, 19,218 in Romblon, and 29,411 in Palawan.
Already, P2.5 million worth of food assistance has reached 13,375 families across the region.
The national government provided P1.4 million of this support, while local government units contributed over P1 million.
DSWD said they are working closely with local government units to assess ongoing needs.
The government has advised residents to monitor official DSWD and Philippine Information Agency channels for updated information on relief operations.
