Oriental Mindoro Generates P6.17 Billion in Tourism-related Revenue in 2024

Oriental Mindoro province has positioned itself as a rising star in the Philippine tourism landscape, generating P6.17 billion in tourism receipts during 2024 while recording over half a million visitor arrivals — a 19.35% increase from the previous year.

The province’s tourism performance stands out against the backdrop of the Philippines’ record-breaking tourism year.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) reported that 5,949,350 international visitors arrived in the country by the end of 2024, while national tourism receipts topped P760 billion in 2024, rising 9.04% and setting a new record.

According to data from TourLISTA, Oriental Mindoro welcomed 442,156 domestic tourists and 87,589 foreign visitors in 2024, generating substantial economic impact through tourism expenditure.

Domestic tourists averaged P3,500 in daily spending over three-day stays, while foreign visitors maintained the same spending level but extended their visits to five days on average.

The province’s tourism receipts breakdown shows P4.64 billion from domestic tourism and P1.53 billion from international visitors, reflecting a balanced approach to market development that has proven successful in driving overall growth.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco has cited the importance of regional destinations in the country’s tourism recovery strategy.

The Philippines earned an estimated P760 billion in tourism spending since the beginning of 2024, representing a 119% recovery from P600.01 billion in 2019.
