PAGASA has issued a flood advisory Thursday for major river systems in Mindoro and other MIMAROPA provinces as a low pressure area with “medium” potential to develop into a tropical depression brings heavy rains across central Philippines.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall and thunderstorms affecting watercourses in Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, with particular concern for communities along major tributaries.
As of 2:00 AM today, July 3, 2025 the Low Pressure Area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has a “medium” potential to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, prompting heightened monitoring by weather forecasters.
In Oriental Mindoro, rivers and tributaries likely to be affected include the Malaylay-Baco, Pulang Tubig, Mag-asawang Tubig, Butas, Pula, Agsalin, Bansud, Sumagui, Bongabong, Baroc, Bulalacao and Paluate systems.
Occidental Mindoro faces similar risks along the Abra de Ilog, Caguray, Labangan, Lumintao, Anahawan, Monpong, Amnay, Pola, Pagbahan, Mamburao, Ibod, and Bugsanga-Magbando river networks.
The flood advisory also covers Marinduque’s Tawiran-Tagum and Boac rivers as well as waterways across the MIMAROPA region.
PAGASA warned that people living near mountain slopes and low-lying areas of the affected river systems should remain alert for possible flash floods.
The weather disturbance was located 125 kilometers east-northeast of Aparri, Cagayan as of 3:00 AM Thursday, combined with the southwest monsoon affecting central and southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Occidental Mindoro is forecast to experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon, with possible flash floods or landslides from moderate to heavy rainfall.
Western Visayas and rest of Luzon face cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms from the same weather system.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Mun remains under monitoring outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, located 2,500 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour.
PAGASA advised the public to monitor updates from DOST-PAGASA FB page as conditions continue to develop.
