A low pressure area that could develop into the country’s first tropical storm is bringing scattered rains to Mindoro and the MIMAROPA region Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

The weather disturbance entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early Friday and has a medium chance of intensifying into a tropical depression within 24 hours, according to PAGASA.

The LPA, located 340 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes as of 3 p.m. today, June 6, 2025, may develop into Tropical Storm Auring by Saturday or Sunday and could move close to Eastern Visayas and the Bicol region over the weekend.

MIMAROPA, which includes Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan, will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat), PAGASA said in its 4 p.m. bulletin.

The weather bureau warned of possible flash floods and landslides in areas experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall.

Other areas affected by the southwest monsoon include Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and SOCCSKSARGEN.

Meanwhile, Quezon province, the Bicol region and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the trough of the low pressure area.

The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters are forecast across the archipelago, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.

PAGASA advised the public to continue monitoring weather updates as forecasts may still change. The agency initially spotted the weather disturbance 945 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas at 3 a.m. Friday.

If the system intensifies into a tropical storm, it would be the first named storm of 2025 and could enhance the southwest monsoon affecting large parts of the country.
