Mindoro Among Areas Hit by “Danger Level” Heat in PH

Mindoro is among 25 areas in the Philippines facing “danger level” heat indices of 42°C to 45°C on Friday, May 2, 2025, as the country battles soaring temperatures, the state weather agency reported.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its May 2, 2025 bulletin that Infanta, Quezon, will record the highest heat index at 45°C.

Iba, Zambales, and Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas, are forecast to reach 44°C, while Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and Cubi Point, Subic Bay, Olongapo City, will hit 43°C.

Areas including Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, and San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, alongside Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, are expected to experience 42°C.

PAGASA classifies heat indices between 42°C and 51°C as “danger” levels, which can lead to heat cramps, exhaustion, and heat stroke.

The agency advised limiting outdoor activities, staying hydrated, and wearing lightweight clothing to avoid heat-related illnesses.

The Philippines is enduring extreme heat, worsened by climate change and the residual effects of El Niño, which have driven temperatures higher in recent months.

This heatwave has strained water resources, disrupted farming, and heightened health risks, particularly for vulnerable communities.
