A demographic study released by the Philippine Statistics Authority reveals notable gender disparities among household heads in Occidental Mindoro province, with men leading 82.9 percent of households compared to women at 17.1 percent.
The province reports 126,633 household heads, with men accounting for 104,923 and women for 21,710, according to the PSA data.
Nearly half of female household heads (48.8 percent) are widowed, compared to only 11.4 percent of all household heads across the province. Meanwhile, 73.6 percent of male household heads are legally married.
Age distribution shows notable differences, with female household heads skewing older. Women aged 60-69 represent the largest group (20.8 percent) of female household heads, while men aged 30-39 constitute the largest proportion (25 percent) of male household heads.
The median age for female household heads is 53.3 years, compared to 42.8 years for males.
Household size also differs by gender.
Male-headed households average 4.3 persons, while female-headed households average 3.4 persons. Single-member households are more common among women (17.3 percent) than men (5.5 percent).
The data also shows that 65.7 percent of all household heads are married, while 19.6 percent are in common-law or live-in arrangements. Divorced, separated or annulled individuals account for 3.4 percent of household heads, while less than 0.1 percent have never married.
These figures bare the socioeconomic dynamics affecting family structures in the province and may have implications for social services and economic planning.
