A fire erupted Sunday at an abandoned building of the former Provincial Hospital in Barangay Ilaya, Calapan City with no reported casualties, officials said.

Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor said in a statement that a power transformer reportedly exploded before the fire started.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause and extent of damage.

“With the intense heat we’re experiencing, extra caution is necessary,” Dolor said, thanking the Bureau of Fire Protection, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for their prompt response.

The Calapan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD) reported that the incident occurred at approximately 11:59 a.m. on April 27. The fire was classified as an industrial fire.

“We urge our fellow citizens to take extra precautions during this time,” Dolor added in his statement.

The CDRRMD reminded residents that their office is open 24/7 and can be reached through hotline numbers: 0915-744-9698, 0966-029-9777 (Globe); 0999-735-6447 (Smart); or landlines (043) 288-7521 and (043) 288-6111.
