A fire erupted aboard a passenger vessel during loading operations at a port in Occidental Mindoro early Wednesday, April 9, 2025, maritime authorities reported.
The blaze broke out at approximately 9 a.m. on the MV RORO Master 2 at the Port of Abra de Ilog as the vessel was preparing for its scheduled voyage to Batangas.
According to officials, the fire originated in the deck generator area located at the rear section of the vessel, reports said.
At the time of the incident, the ship was carrying 34 crew members, 33 passengers and 21 vehicles.
Coast Guard personnel from Sub-Station Abra de Ilog responded immediately upon receiving reports of the fire.
The vessel’s crew, working alongside the ship’s damage control team, quickly implemented firefighting procedures.
Additional fire extinguishers were secured from the Philippine Ports Authority as a precautionary measure.
The fire was officially declared extinguished by 9:20 a.m., approximately 20 minutes after it started.
No injuries or casualties were reported.
The Coast Guard Station Occidental Mindoro has recommended temporarily suspending the vessel’s operating documents pending a comprehensive safety inspection to determine its seaworthiness.
