A PAGASA weather update issued Monday at 12:20 p.m. warned of potential flooding in Mindoro provinces due to a shear line affecting the eastern section of Southern Luzon and the northeast monsoon impacting the rest of Luzon.
According to the forecast, light to moderate rains and thunderstorms are expected in the area over the next 12 hours.
As a result, several watercourses in Mindoro are likely to be affected, including rivers and tributaries in both Oriental and Occidental Mindoro.
In Oriental Mindoro, the following rivers and tributaries may experience flooding: Malaylay-Baco, Pulang Tubig, Mag-asawang Tubig, Butas, Pula, Agsalin, Bansud, Sumagui, Bongabong, Baroc, Bulalacao, and Balete.
In Occidental Mindoro, the affected rivers and tributaries include Abra De Ilog, Caguray, Labangan, Lumintao, Anahawin, Monpong, Amnay, Pola, Pagbahan, Mamburao, Ibod, and Bugsanga-Magbando.
Residents living near mountain slopes and in low-lying areas near these river systems are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
The Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils in the affected areas have been notified and are urged to be on high alert.
The public is warned to be vigilant and prepared for potential flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.
Authorities recommend monitoring local news and weather reports for updates and following evacuation orders if necessary.
