Oriental Mindoro’s construction sector had demonstrated robust activity in October 2024, with non-residential projects dominating both volume and value, as commercial developments spearheaded a P252.09 million investment in building permits, according to preliminary data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The province recorded 101 approved building permits during the month, with non-residential construction claiming the lion’s share at 58 projects, valued at P172.97 million — representing 68.6 percent of the total construction value.
Commercial developments emerged as the powerhouse of non-residential construction, with 32 projects accounting for 55.2 percent of non-residential permits.
The commercial sector alone generated P60.17 million in construction value, representing 34.8 percent of non-residential investments.
Institutional facilities formed the second-largest category with 20 projects, while industrial developments secured five permits.
A single permit was issued for other non-residential projects, which typically include facilities such as water tanks, helipads, and facades.
In the residential sector, which secured 30 building permits worth P64.70 million, single-family homes dominated with 23 approvals, representing 76.7 percent of residential construction.
These single-house projects were valued at P55.33 million, accounting for 85.5 percent of residential construction value.
The apartment and accessoria category followed with seven projects, while no permits were issued for duplexes, quadplexes, or condominiums during the period.
Floor area statistics further reveal the non-residential sector’s dominance, with these projects encompassing 19,973 square meters — 77.8 percent of the total 25,668 square meters under construction.
Residential projects accounted for 4,865 square meters, or 19 percent of the total floor area.
Additional construction activity included seven permits for building modifications and repairs, valued at P8.84 million, and six permits for auxiliary projects such as demolitions, fencing, street furniture, landscaping, and signboards, totaling P5.58 million.
The comprehensive data, compiled from approved building permits, bares an upward trend toward commercial development in Oriental Mindoro, suggesting continued economic expansion in the province.
The substantial investment in institutional facilities also indicates ongoing development of public infrastructure and services.
