BREAKING: NPA Rebels, Soldiers Clash in Mindoro

A firefight between government troops and communist rebels broke out Tuesday in a remote village in Oriental Mindoro province, residents said.

The clash occurred in Sitio Gitgit, Barangay Villa Pag-Asa, Bansud, with residents reporting hearing gunfire exchanges starting in the afternoon, according to initial reports.

Details of the fighting were sketchy, but residents said the sound of gunfire was still audible as of late Tuesday.

The Philippine military has not yet issued a statement on the ongoing gunbattle. (This is a developing story.)
