The Philippine National Police (PNP) has released an extensive public safety advisory Thursday, detailing vehicle maintenance protocols and security measures as part of its “Ligtas Undas 2024” campaign.

VEHICLE SAFETY CHECKLIST
The police mandate a comprehensive “BLOWBAGETS” vehicle inspection system:

  • Battery: Check for corrosion and proper electrolyte fluid levels.
  • Lights: Ensure all signals, brakes, and headlights function properly.
  • Oil: Verify oil levels and check for leaks.
  • Water: Inspect radiator fluid levels and windshield wiper functionality.
  • Brake: Monitor brake fluid levels and test brake pads and gas pedals.
  • Air: Maintain proper tire pressure, including spare tires.
  • Gas: Keep sufficient fuel for travel.
  • Engine: Verify proper engine tuning and overall condition.
  • Tools: Carry necessary tools.
  • Self: Ensure driver fitness and alertness for long journeys.

CEMETERY VISITOR GUIDELINES
The advisory outlines specific protocols for cemetery visits:

  • Plan visit schedules to manage crowd flow.
  • Secure all doors and windows at unattended residences.
  • Ensure proper lighting and locked entrances.
  • Verify candle safety to prevent fire hazards.
  • Bring appropriate clothing and drinking water.
  • Present valid identification when requested.
  • Remember to supervise children at all times.

Prohibited items within cemetery grounds include:

  • Deadly and bladed weapons
  • Sound systems and speakers
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Gambling paraphernalia

ANTI-CARNAPPING MEASURES
The police stressed vehicle security measures:

  • Lock vehicles when parked or unattended.
  • Park only in designated well-lit areas.
  • Avoid displaying valuable items inside vehicles.
  • Be vigilant of suspicious individuals around parked vehicles.
  • Avoid isolated parking locations.
  • Install additional security features when possible.

First aid stations and PNP Assistance Desks will be strategically located throughout the municipality to provide immediate assistance when needed.

HOME SECURITY RECOMMENDATIONS
For residents leaving homes unattended, police advise:

  • Secure all windows and entrance points.
  • Install proper lighting systems.
  • Remove potential hiding spots near the property.
  • Avoid leaving notes on doors indicating absence.
  • Coordinate with neighbors for property monitoring.
  • Store valuable items in secure locations.
