Tropical Storm Kristine Knocks Out Power in Several Oriental Mindoro Towns

Severe Tropical Storm Kristine has caused widespread power interruptions across Oriental Mindoro, affecting at least eight major power feeders and multiple municipalities, according to a report submitted to Governor Bonz Dolor by the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO).

The initial damage assessment as of 11 a.m. Thursday shows three total system blackouts recorded due to the storm’s impact.

The power supply status indicates readings of 40.92, 38.91, and 2.01 across monitoring stations.

Several 69-kilovolt transmission lines remain unavailable, disrupting power distribution in portions of Roxas, Mansalay, Bulalacao, and Puerto Galera.

The Victoria feeder is currently under ongoing damage assessment.

The distribution line damage report reveals multiple infrastructure casualties across the province.

Puerto Galera sustained damage to nine poles, while San Teodoro reported damage to both upper and lower tie lines.

Other affected areas include Baco, Calapan City, and Naujan, where several poles were damaged.

Repair efforts are already underway, with some areas seeing progress, according to Ormeco.

Victoria and Socorro have completed repairs on damaged poles and transformers.

In the same manner, Mansalay and Bansud have restored their affected infrastructure.

Adding to the challenges, the report indicates fuel supply concerns, with one unit at POC CDPF running low on bunker fuel until Sunday, and two units at POC MHEC scheduled to run until Sunday.

The RMS bunker Unit #2 is currently on CMS.

ORMECO says it continues to assess and repair damage as weather conditions permit, though no estimated time of complete power restoration has been provided.
