Tropical Storm Kristine has forced over 6,600 families to evacuate across Oriental Mindoro province as flooding hits multiple municipalities, disaster management officials reported Wednesday.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 27,596 individuals have been affected across 45 barangays in five municipalities, based on data released at 11PM on October 22, 2024.
Of those displaced, 279 families are sheltering inside evacuation centers, while 183 families have sought refuge elsewhere.
Flooding has struck 15 barangays across five municipalities: Victoria (4 barangays), Socorro (6), Pola (2), Pinamalayan (1), and Naujan (2).
LGU authorities have suspended classes at all levels in public and private schools, as well as work in government offices, under Executive Order 49.
All port operations in Oriental Mindoro have been cancelled.
The storm has damaged two houses so far — one totally destroyed and one partially damaged.
Officials have distributed 166 food packs to affected residents.
Despite the severe weather, basic services remain largely intact.
The province reports no interruptions to electricity, telecommunications, or water services, while roads and bridges remain passable.
The provincial disaster management council continues to monitor the situation and coordinate relief efforts.
Emergency hotlines have been activated for residents needing assistance.
