25 Oriental Mindoro Students Receive DOST’s Junior Level Science Scholarships

Twenty-five students from Oriental Mindoro have secured spots in the prestigious 2024 Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS) program, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) announced Thursday.

These scholars, hailing from various universities across the Philippines, will now join the DOST’s programs to advance scientific research and development.

The scholarship recipients are:

  3. Xyngene Brian Aguila Atienza
  4. Janssen Vincent Delos Santos Babao
  5. Armando Aldaba Barcebal III
  6. Matthew Allan Abantao Bugarin
  7. Erica Vanessa Datinguinoo Cabral
  8. Arvin Falcon Cabunuan
  9. King Philip Villalobos Canaco
  10. Kate Lesley Reanzares Cleofe
  11. Sarah Jane Vasquez Comia
  12. Mary Christelle Binay Cruzat
  13. Rex Aguilar De Leon
  14. Jhon Lloyd Gadiana
  15. Harley Discipulo Hernandez
  16. Vienne Cantos Historillo
  17. Erika De Guzman Laordin
  18. Jay Alad Macalelong
  19. Jego Maru Sitjar Manlolo
  20. Michael Niño Basa Orilla
  21. John Lloyd Jugno Padrilan
  22. Flodah Nadine Galvey Rafa

The scholars come from various institutions including Mindoro State University, Batangas State University-Alangilan, University of the Philippines-Los Banos, Divine Word College of Calapan, Centro Escolar University-Manila, Adventist University of the Philippines, and Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila.

DOST officials praised the students’ dedication, welcoming them to the “DOST Family” and expressing optimism about their future contributions to science in the Philippines.

DOST offers JLSS to second year college students to support them in pursuing degrees in science and technology.

The program is intended to foster a skilled workforce that can contribute to national development.

Recipients of the DOST JLSS receive several financial benefits, including tuition and school fees; coverage of educational expenses; monthly stipend; a living allowance of P7,000 to assist with daily expenses; book allowance; and financialsupport for purchasing educational materials.

These benefits are designed to alleviate the financial burden on students and encourage them to focus on their studies in science and technology fields.

From 2002 to 2007, he served as a researcher, writer, and producer for GMA-7’s top-rating show Imbestigador before becoming the executive producer for ABS-CBN’s award-winning documentary program, The Correspondents.
