Blackout Hits Large Parts of Occidental Mindoro; OMECO Gets Power from ORMECO

Share this News:

Huge parts of Occidental Mindoro experienced power outages Wednesday afternoon due to a line fault in the National Power Corporation’s (NPC) 69kV transmission lines, the Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (OMECO) reported.

The fault, which began around 2:00PM, affected the MAPSA (Mamburao, Abra de Ilog, Paluan, Sta. Cruz, and Abra de Ilog) area.

OMECO said the issue prevented power plants in the island from synchronizing with the grid.

OMCPC Mamburao plant, contracted to supply 8MW, could only provide 4.9MW, falling short of the area’s approximately 6MW demand, OMECO said in a statement.

To avoid load shedding, OMECO coordinated with Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO) to utilize excess power supply through Minolo Transmission Lines.

NPC technicians are currently troubleshooting the transmission line fault.

OMECO advised residents to stay informed about the situation and report concerns to their hotline for the MAPSA area.
