New Weather Monitoring System in Mindoro Uses Internet of Things Tech

The Mindoro State University has conducted training on a new weather monitoring system funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Oriental Mindoro province.

The project, called MOSES (Monitoring and Observation of Site-specific E-Weather Stations), uses Internet of Things technology to track local weather conditions. It’s part of a modern research initiative to improve hydrologic response modeling in the Mag-asawang Tubig Watershed.

During the training, participants learned how to operate and maintain the weather stations.

They also practiced basic troubleshooting techniques. The session included hands-on activities and networking opportunities for attendees.

DOST’s regional office for MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) provided funding for the project.

Representatives from the Provincial and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices of Victoria and Naujan attended, along with students studying disaster-related topics.

For the first time, officials demonstrated the synchronization between a pilot area tower and the project’s operation center.

Project leaders say the training is crucial for the long-term sustainability of MOSES.

They hope the system will enhance disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts in the province.
