“Biyahe ni Drew: Oriental Mindoro” has won the National Award for Best Lifestyle Program at the Asian Academy Creative Awards.

The show, which features travel and culture in the Philippines, showcased the rich tourism and cultural offerings of Oriental Mindoro province.

Featured destinations included Infinity Farm in Baco, Malubay Eco-Tourism Area and Twin Panton Cave in Gloria, and the Oriental Mindoro Heritage and Cultural Center in Mansalay.

The program also spotlighted Mindoro attractions such as Gloria’s Municipal Bamboo Plantation and traditional labong dishes, Anela’s Place Freshwater Private Pool, and the Hanunuo Mangyan tribe’s gitgit instrument from Mansalay.

Biyahe ni Drew, a popular travel and lifestyle program shown on GMA 7 and on Youtube, and is hosted by Drew Arellano, has played a paramount role in promoting Philippine tourism attractions and the country’s diverse culture.

Romel “Direk” Ferriol Bernardo

Bernardo Creative Ventures, Inc., the company behind Direk Fuels, Oriental Mindoro’s homegrown gas station chain, and Direk Builders, which rents out heavy equipment, is expanding its portfolio by venturing into online media and content production.

The company’s entry into news media is not surprising, as its founder and CEO, Romel “Direk” Bernardo, was a television writer, producer, and director for over 15 years. From 2002 to 2007, he served as a researcher, writer, and producer for GMA-7’s top-rating show Imbestigador before becoming the executive producer for ABS-CBN’s award-winning documentary program, The Correspondents.
