Health officials in Oriental Mindoro province urged residents Thursday to ensure safe food and water consumption following recent heavy rains, in a bid to prevent waterborne illnesses.
The Provincial Health Office (PHO) issued guidelines on avoiding diseases caused by contaminated food and water, particularly the risks of diarrhea.
“Be cautious about water and food quality to maintain good health,” the health office said in an advisory posted on social media.
The advisory included information on common waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, and hepatitis A. It also outlined symptoms to watch for, including vomiting, diarrhea, and fever.
Officials recommended using oral rehydration solutions to combat dehydration and advised seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms persist.
PHO cited preventive measures like proper handwashing, ensuring clean drinking water, and thorough cooking of food.
Oriental and Occidental Mindoro provinces have experienced increased rainfall in recent days, raising concerns about water contamination.
Health authorities encouraged residents to stay informed, saying: “A knowledgeable community is a safe community.”
