Razon’s Bauan Terminal to Boost Batangas-Mindoro Trade, Become Philippines’ Second-Largest Port

In a move that will boost economic ties between Batangas and neighboring island provinces and mainland Luzon, Enrique K. Razon Jr.’s International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) is developing the Luzon International Container Terminal (LICT) in Bauan, Batangas, with completion set for 2028.

The LICT project is expected to boost MIMAROPA and CALABARZON’s economy, particularly in the provinces of Batangas and Mindoro, which have long been connected by trade and commerce.

The terminal’s strategic location will facilitate the transportation of goods between the two provinces, fostering economic growth and development in Calabarzon and Mimaropa.

Once operational, LICT will become the largest privately funded marine terminal investment in the Philippines and the country’s second-largest container facility, following the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT).

ICTSI’s vice president and head of global engineering, Nathan Clarke, noted the project’s contribution to sustainable shipping, saying, “We’re proud to drive positive change by developing a world-class port capable of handling the largest container vessels. This boosts our capacity and helps lead the shift toward a more sustainable shipping industry.”

The terminal’s ability to handle mega ships will increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact by cutting emissions per container.

ICTSI has prioritized sustainability in the design and construction of the terminal, with plans to minimize environmental impact.

Engineering and design studies are in progress, and construction is expected to begin in early 2025, following strict environmental guidelines to protect the local ecosystem.
