Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro, including Lubang Islands, were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 early Saturday (Nov. 8, 2025) as Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) further strengthened while moving west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Eastern Visayas, PH weather bureau said.
At 4 a.m., the center of Uwan was located 985 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas (12.4ยฐN, 133.7ยฐE), packing maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gustiness up to 160 km/h, PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.
The typhoon was moving west-northwest at 25 km/h, with strong to typhoon-force winds extending 780 km from the center.
Signal No. 2 was hoisted over Catanduanes and parts of Northern Samar, Samar and Eastern Samar.
Signal No. 1 covered much of Luzon, including Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Islands, and Calamian Islands.
In the Visayas, the rest of Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, northeastern Bohol, northern and central Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, northern Negros Occidental, northern and central Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and northern and central Antique including Caluya Islands were also under Signal No. 1.
Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte in Mindanao rounded out the list.
PAGASA warned Uwan could rapidly intensify into a super typhoon by Saturday night or Sunday morning and may hoist Signal No. 5, the highest level.
The typhoon is forecast to make landfall over southern Isabela or northern Aurora late Sunday or early Monday, then cross northern Luzon before emerging over the West Philippine Sea.
A storm surge exceeding 3 meters is possible within 48 hours over low-lying coastal areas of Isabela, Aurora, Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar.
Gale warnings were in effect over northern and eastern Luzon and eastern Visayas, with waves up to 14 meters possible off Catanduanes and Camarines Sur.
PAGASA advised the public and disaster officials to take precautions and monitor local advisories.
