The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Wednesday it will use media reports and public information to strengthen evidence in its investigation of anomalous flood control projects, including a botched project in Mindoro.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the department will utilize all available reports from media outlets, information from the public and complaints filed through the Sumbong sa Pangulo website to build cases against those responsible.

The agency has filed two cases related to failed projects in Bulacan and Mindoro, but Dizon said they are not rushing to file additional complaints to ensure sufficient evidence for prosecution.

“It’s possible that those involved might not be held accountable or punished if we don’t have adequate evidence,” Dizon said.

He added that the department continues to investigate several flood control projects to ensure accountability under the law, following directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The DPWH has been under scrutiny over flood control projects in the country that allegedly failed to meet standards or were overpriced.
