Dengue fever cases in the province of Oriental Mindoro have fallen dramatically this year, according to provincial health authorities.
The Provincial Health Office (PHO) said 852 cases were recorded between January and 30 August 2025, an 85% drop from the 5,524 cases reported over the same period in 2024.
Three municipalities currently have dengue clusters, with the highest number of cases in San Roque, Bulalacao, where three infections were recorded during the last week of August.
Officials say the reduction demonstrates the effectiveness of prevention strategies, but warn that continued vigilance is essential.
Despite the overall decline, health data shows cases peaked during weeks 27-31 of this year, coinciding with the rainy season when mosquito breeding sites increase.
Bulalacao municipality leads the province with 170 total cases, followed by Naujan with 154.
The provincial capital Calapan City has recorded 125 cases, including one death.
This contrasts sharply with 2024, when cases surged from week 20 onwards and peaked at nearly 400 infections in a single week.
Health authorities credit the improvement to the “4S Strategy” ( Search and destroy mosquito breeding places, Self-protection measures, Seek early consultation, and Say no to indiscriminate fogging).
While welcoming the improvement, authorities stress that sustained people’s participation in prevention measures remains crucial to prevent future outbreaks.
