Thirty former rebels have completed a three-day deradicalization program in Occidental Mindoro province, part of ongoing government programs to end decades of communist insurgency in the country.

The program, held from July 21-23, 2025, at a halfway house in Barangay Tayamaan, Mamburao, was organized by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office with the Philippine Army’s 203rd Infantry Brigade and civil-military operations units.

Participants, described as “Fully Reconciled Individuals”, underwent counselling, psychosocial interventions, and skills training designed to help them reintegrate into mainstream society.

Sessions covered livelihood opportunities, responsible parenthood, faith-based interventions, and community development.

“This is not just simple trainingโ€”this is a step towards a new beginning, to give hope and direction to our countrymen who once lost their way,” said Rosalina Lamoca, a representative from the provincial social welfare office.

Brigadier General Melencio Ragudo, commander of the 203rd Infantry Brigade, acknowledged the collaboration between the local government units and military forces in promoting peace in the province.

The Philippine government has pursued both military operations and peace programs to address the insurgency, including amnesty programs and development projects in affected areas.

Recent years have seen increased surrenders of NPA fighters, attributed to sustained military pressure and government reintegration measures.
