DepEd warns public against fake Saturday classes

The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued a misinformation alert warning the public against a fake social media post claiming that Saturday classes will be implemented for elementary to senior high school students.

The fabricated announcement, which circulated on Facebook and other platforms, falsely stated that all students from elementary to senior high school would attend Saturday classes starting July 5, 2025.

“Fake news ang kumakalat na social media post tungkol sa umano’y pagdaragdag ng Saturday classes sa elementary hanggang senior high school,” DepEd said in its official advisory posted on social media.

The education department reminded the public to be vigilant and critical against any form of misinformation regarding educational policies and announcements.

“Muling pinaaalalahanan ng DepEd ang publiko na mag-ingat at maging mapanuri laban sa anumang uri ng misinformation,” the advisory said.

DepEd noted that all official announcements and information about basic education should only be sourced from verified DepEd Philippines social media accounts and official channels.

The fake post used DepEd’s official logo and branding, making it appear legitimate to unsuspecting readers.

The misinformation comes as classes have already opened for School Year 2025–2026 with the DepEd expecting around 27 million enrollees from preschool to senior high school.

This is not the first time DepEd has had to counter false information circulating on social media. In recent months, the department has debunked several fake announcements, including a viral social media post purportedly announcing the addition of Grade 13 to Senior High School and news about the suspension of classes due to mpox.

Parents, students, and the general public are advised to verify information through official DepEd channels before sharing or acting on any educational announcements circulating on social media.

For official updates and announcements about basic education, the public is encouraged to visit the official DepEd website or follow their verified social media accounts.
