A much-needed drainage system has been constructed in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro to address flooding in the area.
The P50 million project, funded through the national budget, targets Barangay San Isidro where numerous resorts, hotels and commercial establishments operate in the popular tourist destination.
First District Oriental Mindoro Representative Arnan Panaligan announced the project through his AGILA Congressional Project (Aksyon ng Gobyerno at Inisyatibo sa Larangang Lehislatura), describing it as a taxpayer-funded solution to longstanding flood issues.
The drainage infrastructure will serve as water outlets for Puerto Galera’s business district, according to Rep Panaligan’s social media post.
The project was requested by the Municipal Government of Puerto Galera under Mayor Rocky Ilagan’s administration.
Puerto Galera, known for its beaches and diving spots, attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists annually.
Flooding in the commercial area has previously disrupted business operations during heavy rainfall.
Panaligan noted that public funds from taxpayers have been specifically earmarked for this project to benefit residents and the tourism industry in the area.
