Oriental Mindoro will hold the second phase of its province-wide clean-up drive on June 20, 2025, to curb the spread of dengue, a mosquito-borne disease that remains a recurring public health menace in the province.
The campaign, starting at 7:00 a.m., calls on families, schools, businesses, and community organizations to unite in eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
The clean-up drive echoes the Department of Healthโs (DOH) โ4S Kontra Dengueโ campaign, which focuses on searching and destroying mosquito breeding grounds, securing self-protection, seeking early consultation, and supporting fogging in hotspot areas.
Mindoreรฑo residents are encouraged to share the campaign on social media to amplify its message of cleanliness and safety.
Nationwide, dengue remains a pressing issue.
The DOH reported 62,313 cases from January 1 to March 1, 2025, a 73% increase compared to the same period in 2024, with a case fatality rate of 0.35%.
The regions of Calabarzon, National Capital Region, and Central Luzon accounted for the highest numbers, with 12,735, 11,291, and 10,185 cases, respectively.
Despite a slight decline in cases from mid-February to mid-March, the DOH warns that the upcoming rainy season could drive an increase in infections.
Globally, the World Health Organization reported over three million dengue cases across 90 countries in 2025.
In the Philippines, where all four dengue serotypes circulate, the virus poses a year-round threat, particularly during the wet season from June to February.
The DOH has distributed thousands of Dengue IgG/IgM and rapid diagnostic test kits to enhance testing program.
