Occidental Mindoro is expected to bear the brunt of intensifying monsoon rains over the next three days, with the Philippine weather bureau forecasting up to 200mm of rainfall as the southwest monsoon strengthens across Luzon and parts of the Visayas.
The state weather service PAGASA issued its 17th advisory on Tuesday morning, June 10, 2025, warning that Occidental Mindoro and neighboring Zambales province face the highest rainfall accumulations of 100-200mm on Wednesday, double the amounts expected elsewhere in the country.
The monsoon system will dump 50-100mm of rain across Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan on Tuesday, before intensifying midweek to affect a wider swath including Metro Manila, according to the weather advisory issued at 5 a.m.
By Thursday, rainfall is forecast to ease slightly but will continue affecting Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan with 50-100mm accumulations.
PAGASA cautioned that mountainous and elevated areas could experience higher rainfall amounts, while some provinces may face worsened impacts due to recent heavy rainfall that has already saturated soils.
The weather bureau advised the public and disaster management offices to take necessary precautions to protect life and property.
The country’s monsoon season typically runs from May through October, bringing essential rainfall for agriculture but also posing risks of flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
