The Department of Health MIMAROPA Center for Health Development distributed five ambulances to towns in Oriental Mindoro to strengthen emergency health services in the province.
The ambulances were awarded under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program and are among 20 vehicles being distributed across various provinces in MIMAROPA region.
The municipalities of Victoria, Pola, Pinamalayan, Gloria and Mansalay received the new ambulances, along with the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro.
Health officials said the vehicles will expand healthcare access for patients, particularly those in remote barangays with limited access to hospitals and primary health facilities.
The Health Facilities Enhancement Program serves as the government’s primary mechanism for providing medical equipment and transport vehicles to local government units nationwide.
The program supports local Universal Health Care implementations through the provision of medical transport and equipment to local government units.
Ambulances distributed under the program are deployed to various DOH hospitals and medical centers, LGU hospitals, urban health centers, rural health units, and provincial, city and municipal health offices.
Under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program, ambulances with complete medical equipment are acquired at P2.5 million pesos each.
DOH has established comprehensive guidelines for ambulance services, with Centers for Health Development monitoring compliance of ambulance service providers with DOH policies, standards and guidelines.
