GSM Falters as Political Winds Shift in Oriental Mindoro

Just months after Governor Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor launched his own provincial political party—Galing at Serbisyo para sa Mindoreño (GSM)—with the promise of unified leadership and continuity, the results of the May 2025 midterm elections suggest that the party faced major challenges in expanding its political influence across Oriental Mindoro.

While Dolor secured reelection as governor with 235,935 votes, this marked a decline from the 255,696 votes he garnered in the 2022 elections—a decrease of 19,761 votes, or almost 8%. His vote share also dropped from 58% in 2022 to 54% in 2025, despite a higher voter turnout.

In vote-rich areas, the governor’s support also declined:

Calapan City: 34,551 votes in 2022 to 27,534 in 2025 (drop of 7,017 votes or 20%)

Pinamalayan: 26,752 votes in 2022 to 22,546 in 2025 (drop of 4,206 votes or nearly 16%)

Naujan: 32,761 votes in 2022 to 25,895 in 2025 (drop of 6,866 votes or 21%)

In other key races, GSM candidates were unsuccessful. Dr. Hubbert Dolor, the governor’s eldest brother and GSM’s vice gubernatorial bet, lost to Atty. Jojo Perez of the Mindoro Bago Sarili (MBS). Meanwhile, Ejay Falcon, the incumbent vice governor and GSM’s bet in the 2nd congressional district, was defeated by Rep. Alfonso Umali of the Liberal Party.

In the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, GSM secured 5 out of 10 board member seats. The remaining seats were won by candidates affiliated with MBS, Lakas-CMD, and the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), resulting in a split composition of the provincial board.

In the local races, GSM won only in three municipalities: Puerto Galera, Pola, and Bongabong.

Meanwhile, although the FPJ Bayanihan Party-list topped the party-list race in Oriental Mindoro with 68,732 votes, it is poised to secure only one seat in the House of Representatives based on national tallies. This means Hiyas Dolor, the governor’s wife and the party’s third nominee, will not be able to assume a congressional seat in the next Congress.

Despite these developments, Governor Dolor remains one of the most prominent political figures in Oriental Mindoro. However, the results of the 2025 midterm elections reflect a more competitive political environment, with voters distributing power across different parties and coalitions.
