Two police officers died after being struck by lightning at the Regional Mobile Force Battalion Headquarters parking area in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on Wednesday night, May 14, 2025.
Police identified the victims as Patrolman Laudelino Samarita Lomio, 31, from Mansalay, and Patrolman Ruzzel Jay Ferrer Fontarum, 30, from Pola. Both were assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion Headquarters.
According to Naujan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Chief Joery Geroleo, the incident occurred between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. during heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The officers were parking their motorcycles after completing a routine patrol when they were struck.
The victims were rushed to Mindoro Medical Center but were pronounced dead on arrival.
