COMELEC Bans Cellphone Use During Voting

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a strict reminder prohibiting the use of mobile phones inside voting precincts during voting on May 12, 2025.

While voters may bring their cellphones to polling stations, Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco pointed out that using these devices while casting votes is strictly prohibited.

“Mobile phones cannot be used as voting guides or reference lists for candidates,” Laudiangco said.

Voters are advised to write their chosen candidates on paper instead. “We’re only asking for one day. Please use paper. You can use the sample ballot, our voter information sheet, or your own notes,” he added.

The election body also prohibits taking selfies inside precincts or photographing ballots, receipts, and vote counting machine screens to prevent vote-buying and selling practices.

Violations of these election regulations carry penalties including imprisonment.

Comelec urges voters to prepare written lists of their candidates in advance of election day.
