The Philippine government has approved a P9.5 million project to establish Tourist First Aid Stations and Booths across major tourist sites in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, officials announced Tuesday.

The project, part of a larger P47.5 million national program, is expected to enhance emergency medical support for domestic and international visitors at the popular beach destination.

Government representatives conducted site inspections on Monday at proposed locations in Muelle, Poblacion, White Beach, Minolo, San Isidro, and Sabang, areas that receive the highest tourist traffic.

“This project represents a major step toward ensuring tourist safety,” Puerto Galera Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan said in a statement. “With support from national agencies, we can guarantee that Puerto Galera is not only beautiful but also safe and prepared for any emergency.”

The facilities will be equipped with medical supplies, trained personnel, and information materials to provide immediate assistance during emergencies.

The project follows a memorandum of understanding between the Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Health (DOH), and Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), which have committed to improving safety standards at major tourism destinations nationwide.

Other locations set to receive similar facilities in the first implementation phase include Boracay, La Union, Palawan, Bohol, and Siargao.

Puerto Galera, renowned for its white sand beaches and diving spots, attracts thousands of visitors annually.

Tourism officials hope the enhanced safety infrastructure will strengthen Puerto Galera’s position as a premier tourism destination in the Philippines.
