Eight fishermen exchanged vows with their partners in a distinctive at-sea wedding ceremony on Friday, held aboard their fishing boats as part of the annual Tuna Festival in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.

The event, which has become a municipal tradition, showcases the town’s deep connection to its fishing industry, a cornerstone of the town’s economy.

The Tuna Festival, celebrated yearly, honors Sablayan’s rich marine heritage with events highlighting Mindoro island’s tuna industry, cultural performances, and community activities.

This year’s mass wedding at sea symbolized love and unity while paying homage to the fishermen’s way of life.

The couples, surrounded by the open waters of the Mindoro Strait, were wed in a ceremony officiated by LGU officials, with boats adorned for the occasion.

The unique setting drew attention from residents and visitors, adding a heartfelt moment to the festival’s festivities.
