Government agencies in Oriental Mindoro have implemented comprehensive measures to manage the anticipated influx of passengers during Holy Week.
The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) are spearheading preparations across the province’s transportation hubs.
The Port Terminal Building in Calapan City, with a capacity of 3,500 passengers, stands ready as a major transit facility.
“We began preparations several weeks ago to ensure a seamless travel experience,” said Port Manager Jon Gabriell Manansala of PPA-Port Management Office Mindoro. “Regular coordination meetings with stakeholders, shipping lines, and relevant government agencies have been conducted, alongside routine inspections to identify areas for improvement.”
Similar preparations have been implemented at ports throughout both Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, with adequate personnel and equipment deployed to maintain passenger safety.
Manansala urged travelers to secure bookings in advance and avoid bringing prohibited items such as weapons, illegal drugs, and flammable materials to prevent delays and ensure port security.
Meanwhile, PDRRM Officer Vinscent Gahol cited family preparedness during the holiday period, advocating for every Mindoreรฑo family to maintain an emergency “Go bag” to address potential hazards during Holy Week and the summer vacation season.
