The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued a reminder about power bank restrictions as travelers prepare for Holy Week flights, one of the busiest travel periods in the country.
According to CAAP guidelines, only power banks with capacities up to 100 watt-hours (Wh) can be carried on flights without restrictions.
Devices between 100Wh and 160Wh require prior airline approval, while those exceeding 160Wh are strictly prohibited.
The authority advises passengers to check that milliampere-hour (mAh) and voltage specifications are clearly displayed on their power banks.
To calculate watt-hours, multiply milliampere-hours by voltage and divide by 1,000.
Holy Week, which runs from Palm Sunday (April 13, 2025) through Easter Sunday (April 20, 2025), typically sees millions of Filipinos traveling to provinces for family gatherings and religious observances, resulting in crowded airports and heightened security measures.
CAAP officials recommend that travelers verify their power bank specifications before heading to the airport to avoid confiscation or travel delays.
