A new P35 million Aqua Feedmill Plant – the first facility of its kind in MIMAROPA region – has been inaugurated in Barangay Nasucob, Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro.
The ceremony, held on March 19, 2025, was led by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) MIMAROPA Regional Director Roberto Abrera, alongside BFAR Director Elizer S. Salilig and other top officials.
The state-of-the-art facility is designed to produce between 250 to 300 kilograms of high-quality aqua feeds per hour, according to Lea Dagot, Officer-in-Charge of the Fisheries Post-Harvest and Marketing Section.
“This newly built Aqua Feed Mill will play a crucial role in ensuring fish food sufficiency, sustaining livelihood opportunities, and fostering a more vibrant fisheries sector in MIMAROPA,” said Abrera during the inauguration.
Among the dignitaries present were BFAR Assistant Director for Technical Services Isidro Velayo, BFAR-MIMAROPA Provincial Fisheries Officer for Oriental Mindoro Rolando Miranda, and Bulalacao Mayor Ernilo Villas.
The facility is expected to provide crucial support to fish pond operators, fish cage operators, and aquafarmers throughout the region, which comprises the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
According to BFAR officials, improved feed accessibility and quality will enhance aquaculture productivity in the region, benefiting thousands of fisherfolk and contributing to the country’s food security goals.
