DOT Issues Extreme Heat Warning for MIMAROPA Region

The Department of Tourism in MIMAROPA region issued an urgent advisory Thursday, warning of dangerously high temperatures expected Friday, March 7, 2025.

The forecast from DOT MIMAROPA predicts extreme heat across the region, with San Jose in Occidental Mindoro reaching 42 degrees Celsius (108 degrees Fahrenheit), falling into the “danger” category where heat stroke is probable with prolonged exposure.

    Other areas facing high heat index levels include Cuyo, Palawan, at 41 C (106 F); Coron, Palawan, at 40 C (104 F); Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, at 38 C (100 F); Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, at 37 C (99 F); and Romblon, Romblon, at 36 C (97 F).

Health officials classify heat index levels into three tiers: 33-41 C (91-106 F) as “extreme caution,” where heat cramps and exhaustion are possible; 42-51 C (108-124 F) as “danger,” with probable heat stroke; and 52 C (126 F) and above as “extreme danger,” with imminent heat stroke risk.

The tourism department recommended several precautions, including minimizing sun exposure during peak hours, staying hydrated with water, avoiding dehydrating drinks like alcohol, coffee, and soft drinks, wearing protective clothing such as hats, using umbrellas, and scheduling outdoor activities for cooler times of day.

DOT officials said heat intensity is expected to rise further in mid-March, peaking in April and May.

Tourists are urged to monitor PAGASA weather bulletins and contact tourist assistance services at 0995-835-5155 or touristassistance@tourism.gov.ph, or visit the official tourism website.

MIMAROPA, encompassing Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan provinces, is a popular destination known for its beaches and natural attractions.
