The national and local governments have provided over P575,129 in assistance to nearly 1,400 families affected by severe flooding caused by a shear line in Palawan and Oriental Mindoro, reports said.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s latest situation report, 47,461 individuals from 13,958 families across 75 villages in these two provinces have been impacted.

The exact extent of damage to infrastructure and agriculture remains unclear.

In MIMAROPA region, more than P3.9 million worth of food assistance has been distributed.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA contributed P615,810.80, while local government units provided P2.4 million, and various organizations added P908,900 to the relief efforts.

The aid has reached municipalities including Baco and Victoria in Oriental Mindoro, and Aborlan, Brooke’s Point, Narra, and Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.

DSWD reports indicate that 3,976 families, or 15,338 individuals, were affected or displaced.

Reports indicate that around 3,599 families remain in evacuation centers, with 377 families having returned to their homes.

Weather conditions have been influenced by multiple systems, including the shear line, northeast monsoon, easterlies, and localized thunderstorms.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in several provinces due to the shear line and easterlies in the coming weeks.
